Asus EEE 901

Currently I love to get my hands on Asus EEE 901 laptops. I want one and two co-workers too. So I want three of them. Unfortunatly Asus only delivers the 900 versions or the 901 Windows version of them in The Netherlands. I’ve looked in Germany, but could not find them there either. I’ve seen some online shops in the UK that have them, thought the ones that have them in stock seem to increase there price tags.

So if anyone knows where to get them, without too much problems with power adapters, chinese signs on the keyboard or something like that, please let me know…

  1. Tom. I got my Eee 1000 here in Victoria, BC on Aug 10, just a few days after you posted this. I guess I shouldn’t complain too much if the Eee Xandros repos don’t have much stability yet, it was my decision to go bleeding edge…. I am currently reinstalling Xandros for the third time, and attempting to keep my last two weeks of project management history intact. Please keep up the awesome support dude! I need the WiFi to work in the debian-eeepc.img 16mB net install to get Debian going, which I would massively prefer to Xandros.

I think you are going to have a hard time getting a next gen UMPC with Linux this month. They are just not available yet. I’ve preordered an Acer Aspire One with Linux for the wife. It might arrive at the end of August. (Very similar specs to the 901, crappy 3 cell battery though. 344 euro).

Like Simon said, I’d go for an Acer Aspire one. 299 euro here in NL, will be delivered end of august. better price/spec ratio, imho. The 901 is overpriced, and too heavy (aspire one is still below 1 kilo, unlike the 901)

  7. I just ordered them in the UK, the weight is not really important, since I now have a 17 inch large screen, everything is better. Hope in time for Akademy ;-)

  8. Acer Apspire one is 950gr and the 901 1140gr… doesn’t seem like a big difference to me? It’s like having a sandwich with salami instead of just with a lot of cheese…

And as my collegue said the weight is also determined by what you put in it. The Aspire One might not have the same specs, ergo lighter.

You can buy me an Eee any time ;-)

  9. Where did you ordered in the UK? Do they ship to France, by chance? :)

  10. One problem, Lola, the Acer Aspire One’s battery life is horrible compared to the Asus Eees. You definitely need the extended battery to go above 2 hours (not available yet, as far as I know) and with that special battery on board it will be way heavier than the Eees (meaning, the Eees with the default batteries they get shipped with).
