New beta RSIBreak
The past week I’ve worked hard to rewrite sections of RSIBreak. I’ve just released 0.10 beta 1.
This new version is based on the 0.9 version, which was basically a port to KDE4. This new version tries to be more stable and provide a better user experience. Because it is a beta, it would be nice to receive as much feedback as possible!
I’ve rewritten most of the full screen effects and updated them to be more KDE4 like. There is a new effect called ‘Plasma effect’, which let’s you see the dashboard during a break.
The gray out effect does no longer fake transparency but uses the real stuff. Also the level of transparency is adjustable.
There is another new effect which only shows a passive popup during breaks, this serves like a permanent, but not intrusive, warning to take a break. Of course it will only disappear when you actually take that break…
Lots more tweaks and adjustments and bugfixes, just try it out…
As a long time user of RSIbreak, I’ve never taken the time to stop and say thankyou for a piece of software I use constantly and that has radically improved my health. I must admit, I never got RSI (other than when I was a button mashing Nintendo player as a kid). What I use RSIbreak for is just as a reminder to get up and take a break. Move. Walk outside for a minute in the sunshine while I check that what I’m doing is what I really need to be doing. I use my long breaks to do the jobs I’d never remember to do otherwise that make my wife happy. Overall RSIbreak makes for a happier, healthier, more balanced day. Keeping stats has also kept me from skipping many breaks I might otherwise skip (I get competitive over my “score” :-)
The only thing I miss is the ability to pause my playing podcasts when a break comes up. I have my keyboard lock automatically and I hate to “skip” just to push pause. Even a pop up warning a few seconds before locking would be great.
Anyway, I’m a very happy user just wanting to say thanks. You’ve done a wonderful job with the KDE4 port and the feature set is excellent.
+1 RSIbreak. :)
Good to see RSIBreak alive. My hand would probably have fallen off if I wouldn’t use RSIBreak all the time.
>Even a pop up warning a few seconds before locking would be great.
indeed, this would be useful, if only to quickly ’sum up’ whatever one is doing (finish reading a sentence, press pause, make mental note…) before a break.
+1 for a great little program!
