Accountwizard Demo

The last days I worked on the accountwizard. This will be the assistant that new users automatically see when they launch KMail for the first time.

I’ve changed it in a way that it wil automatically retrieve the correct settings for the incoming and outgoing server if they are already known.

I’ve blogged about it the last few days, so I won’t redo the details, I just wanted to show the final result. The video shows a kmail without accounts, than I launch the accountwizard, give my details for my (unused test) gmail address and the rest is done automatically. You can see the accounts are configured and KMail shows the account in the folderlist. We can’t make it easier I guess :)

    Very nice. How are the settings relative to each provider stored? It would be nice if those would be contributable even without GHNS.

    What’s the use case of unchecking “Find provider settings on the internet”? Shouldn’t it be always on?
    For me this seems to be an unneeded UI-clutter.
    Other than that is looks really well.

    That looks cool. What about if someone has is own domain at a provider. Is the accountwizard already able to determine the provider by looking up the nameserver for the domain or would the mechanism fail then?

    @Mark That’s work in progress. Not sure what the right spec is for that yet

    @bdgraue i just get a ‘save as’ dialog in konq. Must be your player that does not like that file. Nothing I can fix.
