identity.kde.org for everyone

identity.kde.org is now open for new registrations. That means everyone can register an account now. Please note that all developers and former developers already have an account, to get access just request to reset your password and you should be able to enter the site.

With opening the site for everyone, the way new developers get commit access has changed. From now on you register on identity.kde.org, and after you login, you will find a form to apply for ‘developer status’, which will ask you for your ssh key, asks a justification and asks for a supporter.

After the supporter has given his support to the request, we move the user from the ‘users’ group to the ‘developers’ group and that will give the person commit access to SVN and push access to GIT.

If you look at the Schedule this are the items originally planned for the 15th and the 22nd, but the administrative overhead of the current situation was high and the scripts were ready, so we launched it early. I just created the first account via this new procedure and that went smooth.

Next item on our todo list is to launch the reviewboard for git repositories and redmine. Both will launch next wednesday and you can get access to both systems with the same login and password you use for identity.kde.org

  1. Really really nice. Sounds like a lot of development work, but I’m sure, in the end it’s worth the effort!

  2. Thanks. Gosa (the software behind identity) is quite flexible and allows us to do such things relatively easy. Though it is still work which needs to be done. Most of it is done by Ben Cooksley.

  3. Is there any reason for non-(kde-)developers to register on identity.kde.org? Or is it just reasonable for people planning to get a developer in the next weeks?

  4. More and more services will use this single sign in system, like reviewboard and redmine. More to follow. So it makes sense for users to register when they need any of the services that use this system…

  5. signed up now :)

  6. I’m getting a 403 error.

  7. Yeah, i’ve unplugged the site due to a serious bug which needs to be resolved first. Sorry for the inconvenience. Bummer.

  8. One question remains: Why don’t you let people choose their username freely?

  9. Within KDE we have chosen that usernames should match the real names somewhat. No nicknames are allowed. This is to quickly being able to find the real persons name.

  10. @toma
At least will be cool to use dots in usernames, something like name.surname

  11. Yes, a dot would be nice :-). Or at least allow “the other way round” with (alberst instead of toma). Then I could use the same login as at university, work or all other systems :-)

    Thank you!
